Djo, the indie pop project of Stranger Things star Joe Keery, has unveiled his latest single, “Basic Being Basic,” along with the announcement of his new album The Crux. The track, drenched in synth-heavy beats, showcases Keery’s signature falsetto as he critiques the often superficial and performative nature of modern-day online culture.
In a statement, Djo explained that the song is “a shot fired to anyone who’s trying to be of the moment,” targeting the trivial posturing seen in today’s social media-driven world. The accompanying music video is a minimalist affair, showing a group of people eating lunch before leaving, with Keery himself making a brief, impactful appearance at the end.
“Basic Being Basic” marks Djo’s first release since his 2022 album Decide, which featured the viral hit “End Of Beginning.” Fans are now eagerly awaiting The Crux, which is poised to continue the artist’s exploration of catchy, introspective pop.
