King Parrot has given fans a new preview of their upcoming album with the release of their latest single, Look Away I’m Hideous. The track comes just weeks before the band kicks off their national tour in support of the new record.
In February, King Parrot released their first new music in five years with Fuck You And the Horse You Rode In On, followed by Target Pig Elite and Punish The Runt. These singles will feature on the band’s upcoming album, A Young Person’s Guide to King Parrot, set to be released on June 6th. The album, recorded with engineer Luke Walton at Melbourne’s Dangertone Studios, marks the band’s first full-length release since 2017’s Ugly Produce and their first new music since their 2020 EP, Holed Up In The Lair.
The music video for Look Away I’m Hideous was created in collaboration with animator Mike Foxall, known for his work with Nancy Vandal under the name The Art of Fox. The video explores the concept of modern-day body modification, examining why people, already deemed attractive, go to extreme lengths with plastic surgery.
King Parrot guitarist Squiz reflects on the topic, saying, “I’m perplexed by what drives people to push the limits of cosmetic surgery. Why do they continue to take it further? And then, what about those who admire these modifications? I personally have my own body issues, but this whole thing seems alien and dangerous to me.”
Following the album’s release, King Parrot will embark on a national tour across Australia. Afterward, they’ll take the stage in New York City alongside a reformed Acid Bath and Pentagram in July. They’ll also tour the U.S. with Pantera and Amon Amarth.
