Renowned musician Jim Beard, known for his contributions as a keyboardist and singer with the iconic band Steely Dan, has passed away at the age of 63. He succumbed to complications arising from a sudden illness at a New York City hospital on Saturday.

According to a representative for Beard cited in People magazine, he was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing. Beard, who initially established himself as a prominent figure in the realm of jazz music, achieved further acclaim when he clinched a Grammy Award in 2007 for his notable work on the album “Some Skunk Funk.”

In 2008, Beard embarked on a new chapter in his musical journey by joining Steely Dan as a touring member, where he showcased his talents on the keyboard and contributed as a backing vocalist. The band, deeply saddened by his demise, issued a statement via its official website, expressing their profound sorrow over the loss of their friend and colleague.

Prior to his passing, Beard had been actively engaged in musical pursuits, notably touring with the Reelin’ in the Years rock ensemble as they supported legendary musical act The Eagles during their farewell tour. His final stage performance occurred on January 20th, captivating an audience exceeding 18,000 attendees at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
