Eminem, known by his real name Marshall Mathers, is preparing to bid farewell to his iconic alter ego with the announcement of his upcoming album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’.
The rap legend teased his twelfth studio album through a captivating trailer for a fictitious true crime series titled ‘Detroit Murder Files’. The teaser, presented as a snippet from an upcoming episode, delves into the demise of Eminem’s long-standing alter ego, Slim Shady.
In the trailer, the show’s host delves into the complexities of Slim Shady’s character, describing him as a “blond anti-hero” who faced numerous adversaries due to his intricate and often controversial lyrics. A cameo by Eminem’s associate, 50 Cent, adds to the intrigue, with the ‘In Da Club’ rapper labeling Slim Shady as a “psychopath.”
The host speculates that Slim Shady’s provocative lyrics and confrontational persona may have contributed to his fictional demise, inviting viewers to join him in unraveling the events leading to “the murder of Slim Shady.”
Eminem himself makes an appearance in the trailer, reflecting on Slim Shady’s fate with the statement, “I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim.”
Scheduled for release this summer, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’ follows Eminem’s 2020 album ‘Music to Be Murdered By’. Slim Shady has been Eminem’s alter ego since the debut of the ‘Slim Shady EP’ in 1997 and the subsequent release of ‘The Slim Shady LP’ in 1999.
Longtime collaborator Dr. Dre also confirmed the album’s arrival, revealing on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ that he has contributed songs to Eminem’s upcoming project. He shared, “Eminem is working on his own album which is coming out this year, and I actually talked to him and he said it was okay for me to make that announcement right here on this show. I’m actually going to hear the entire album for the first time tomorrow.”
