The four members of the iconic Swedish pop group ABBA have been bestowed with the Swedish equivalent of a knighthood.

Bjorn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Agnetha Faltskog, and Benny Andersson were appointed Commanders of the First Class in the Royal Order of Vasa. The ceremony, presided over by King Carl XVI Gustaf, took place on Friday.

Although the group rarely makes public appearances together, all four members gathered at the royal palace in Stockholm to accept the honor. They were recognized for their “very outstanding efforts in Swedish and international music life.”

ABBA are among the first Swedes to receive this distinction in over 50 years, following the revival of the honor in 2022. Candidates were nominated by the general public and the Swedish government, with the final selections made by King Carl XVI Gustaf.
