Rihanna has addressed recent rumors about her retirement and confirmed that she is actively working on her ninth studio album. The 36-year-old singer, entrepreneur, and actress caused a stir among fans when she was spotted wearing a t-shirt with the words “I’m retired” printed on it.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna clarified that the t-shirt was a joke and revealed her renewed focus on music. “Music, for me, is a new discovery. I’m rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I put all that stuff aside, and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio,” she said.
Rihanna explained that she is revisiting her previous work with a fresh perspective. “I’m now prepared. I’m gonna start. So, you know, give me a second. Yes, I’m starting over, but I don’t wanna neglect the songs that I have. I wanna listen to stuff with new ears, with my new perspective, and then see what still applies and what I’m still in love with.”
It has been eight years since Rihanna released her last album, Anti, which topped charts in January 2016. Fans had hoped for new music when she performed at the Super Bowl last year, but instead, she delivered a powerful performance of her classic hits.
During the interview, Rihanna also addressed questions about expanding her family with partner A$AP Rocky. When asked if she wants more children, she responded, “You know what, I hope so. I do… I’m not pregnant, if that’s what you’re asking.”
