Travis Kelce, the renowned American football player, revealed that his surprise appearance during Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 23 was his own idea.
During Wednesday’s episode of his New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis shared the story behind the cameo. “I initially mentioned it to Tay,” said the 34-year-old. “I was like, ‘How funny would it be if I just rolled out on one of the bikes during the 1989 era.'”
The Kansas City Chiefs star recounted that Taylor Swift, also 34, was amused by the suggestion and asked, “Would you seriously be up for doing something like that?”
Travis enthusiastically responded, “What? I would love to do that, are you kidding me? I’ve seen the show enough – might as well put me to work here.” He explained that Swift found the perfect moment in the show for his participation.
However, the original plan involving a bike was scrapped due to safety concerns. “We decided against it in case I ran into somebody else or hit one of the dancers,” Travis said.
During the performance, Travis donned a tuxedo and top hat, carrying Taylor on stage and assisting with a costume change skit for her song “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” He also revealed that his dance moves were inspired by Jim Carrey’s tap dance in the 1994 film “Dumb and Dumber.”
“I always wanted to pull out this move, but I never knew when it would make sense,” he explained. “That’s one of my favorite moves of all time!”
Teasing future appearances, Travis added, “Who knows, might not be the last time. You guys will have to keep showing up to the Eras Tour to see if I pop out of the stage or whatnot.”
