Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has hinted at retiring from music in a text message to a friend, sparking speculation and concern among fans.

On Tuesday, July 9, rapper Rich The Kid shared a screenshot of an alleged text conversation with Ye, in which the iconic musician stated his intention to step away from his career. “I am retiring from professional music. Not sure what else to do,” Ye wrote.

Rich The Kid responded with attempts to dissuade him: “Retire? Why? How? The ppl NEED you. The music you & Ty & we have made the BIGGEST STAMP in culture to this date in 2024. Drop Ye about mine & V2 and we do it all over again. The kids need you, big bra fasho. Maybe some time to chill but retiring ain’t it.”

The New Freezer rapper later deleted the text exchange from his Instagram Story about 30 minutes after posting it, but not before it caused a stir among fans.

The news of Ye’s potential retirement left many fans in disbelief, while others speculated it could be a marketing strategy for an upcoming album or project. The timing of the message raised eyebrows, especially after Rich The Kid announced that his album Life’s A Gamble would be released on July 19, featuring West on two tracks.

Throughout his two-decade career, West has achieved 157 entries on the Hot 100, making a significant impact on the music industry. Fans are now left to wonder if this is truly the end of an era or just the beginning of a new chapter for the influential artist.
