The nostalgic melodies of classic country music filled Washington Center on June 19, as country performer Freddie Hurley entertained residents at the 122-bed skilled nursing facility. Approximately 20 residents gathered to enjoy timeless hits from legends such as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, George Jones, and Waylon Jennings.
Tonya Barnes, Director of Activities at Washington Center, highlighted the residents’ enthusiasm for country music, especially in the midst of summer and following the recent Fourth of July celebrations. “Our residents absolutely love the Americana feel and familiar tunes of country music,” Barnes commented. “These classics hold a special place in their hearts, proving that music has a remarkable ability to stimulate memories and emotions, particularly among seniors. It’s truly heartwarming to witness.”
Throughout the summer, Washington Center has a robust schedule of activities planned for its residents, including upcoming musical performances like Freddie Hurley’s. The events aim to continue fostering a vibrant and engaging community environment for all residents to enjoy.
