Tallahassee, Florida rockers Mayday Parade have just released their latest single, “Pretty Good To Feel Something,” marking the start of the 2024 Sad Summer Festival alongside co-headliners The Maine in Sacramento, CA, on July 11th.
Produced by multi-platinum engineers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount (All Time Low, Jimmy Eat World), mixed by Vince Ratti (Turnstile, The Menzingers, Quicksand), and mastered by Brad Blackwood (Maroon 5, Against Me!), the new track is a powerful addition to the band’s repertoire.
“‘Pretty Good To Feel Something’ is a song about bad things happening that alter your life and how eventually you have to let those things go and move forward. It’s about appreciating what’s left after it’s all said and done,” explains frontman Derek Sanders.
The single is the band’s latest self-released work, following their decision to go independent after fulfilling their most recent record deal with the release of their seventh studio album, What It Means To Fall Apart, in November 2021. This move has allowed Mayday Parade more freedom and flexibility, particularly as they near their two-decade mark in the industry. “It’s extremely exciting and terrifying all at the same time,” shares drummer Jake Bundrick. Guitarist Alex Garcia adds, “There’s obviously a lot more freedom and control,” with bassist Jeremy Lenzo noting, “We’re going into this with the mindset that each song really needs to stand on its own.”
“Pretty Good To Feel Something” signals a return to form for Mayday Parade following their March 2024 release of a Lofi EP—a collaboration with Less Gravity that reimagined five of their most beloved tracks as downtempo versions. The single also comes after Sanders’ participation in Dashboard Confessional’s “Emo SuperJam” at Bonnaroo, where he joined forces with notable artists such as Chris Carrabba, Andrew McMahon, and Anthony Green to perform emo scene classics from the 1990s and 2000s.
Fans can listen to the new single now and catch Mayday Parade on the road this summer. They are co-headlining this year’s Sad Summer Festival with The Maine, celebrating the festival’s fifth anniversary. The lineup also includes The Wonder Years, We The Kings, Real Friends, Knuckle Puck, and more.
