Marquette’s Tourist Park is gearing up to host the Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival from July 19-21, a prominent event in the Upper Peninsula known for its celebration of diverse musical traditions. Nestled along the banks of the Dead River near Presque Isle Park, the family-friendly festival spans genres such as bluegrass, Cajun, Celtic, acoustic blues, folk, and singer/songwriters, alongside traditional dance styles.
Opening its gates at 1 p.m. on Friday, the festival kicks off with an opening ceremony followed by a lively Friday night dance on the second stage. Food concessions will be available from the start.
Throughout Saturday and Sunday, activities cater to children of different age groups, with dedicated performances and workshops. A special teen-only dance on Saturday night adds to the vibrant atmosphere, complemented by musician-led workshops, open jams, and dance sessions. The weekend culminates with the children’s parade late Sunday afternoon and the Artists in the Round traditional arts show, featuring the young artists corner on Saturday afternoon.
Highlighting this year’s lineup are acclaimed acts including Melissa Carper, Round Creek String Band, Mama’s Broke, Runa, Lone Pinon, The Union Suits, Christie Lene, Joe Hall, and The Louisiana Cane Cutters.
