Nashville, TN became the vibrant backdrop for Cirque du Soleil’s newest spectacle, “Songblazers,” a groundbreaking fusion of country music and acrobatic artistry presented in collaboration with Universal Music Group Nashville. Premiering on Wednesday, July 10, at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, the show marks Cirque du Soleil’s inaugural venture into the realm of country music.
Directed by Amy Tinkham, acclaimed for her work with music icons like James Taylor and Aerosmith, “Songblazers” intricately weaves together the rich tapestry of country music’s history with Cirque du Soleil’s renowned acrobatic prowess. The production aims to immerse audiences in the essence of country storytelling, portraying its evolution through iconic ballads and dynamic performances.
“For Cirque du Soleil to create a show centered around country music is a monumental challenge because of its vast cultural impact,” Tinkham explained in a press statement. “I focused on delving deep into the essence of songcraft and storytelling, which are foundational to country music. ‘Songblazers’ embodies these elements beautifully.”
The show unfolds as a musical journey spanning over a century, featuring 35 songs ranging from 1867 to present-day hits. From timeless classics to contemporary favorites like Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” and Garth Brooks’ “Friends In Low Places,” the repertoire celebrates the genre’s evolution and enduring popularity.
The premiere attracted a constellation of stars from the country music community, including Sam Williams, Carlene Carter, BOWEN & YOUNG, Ty Herndon, and Rob Mayes, underscoring the industry’s support and enthusiasm for the groundbreaking production. Encouraged by the positive reception, additional performances are scheduled in Nashville, with plans for future international tours.
