Rapsody, while not a mainstream name, has collaborated with some of hip-hop’s most legendary figures, including Public Enemy, Busta Rhymes, Queen Latifah, and Big Daddy Kane. Her notable verse on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, hailed as one of the 21st century’s greatest albums, further cements her place in the industry.
In a recent interview on Double J’s Sky High, Rapsody shared her approach to collaboration and competition in hip-hop. Despite the genre’s competitive nature, she reveals that she has never felt intimidated by her peers. “Nobody,” she told Hau Latukefu, when asked if any artist has ever made her nervous.
“For me, it’s always been about doing the best version of myself,” Rapsody explained. “I’ve never approached a track thinking, ‘I’m going to out-rap you today!’ Instead, I focused on making a great record and being inspired by the artists I worked with.”
Her confidence and genuine approach have been hallmarks of Rapsody’s career, qualities that are prominently featured in her new album, Please Don’t Cry.
