Thousands of country music enthusiasts have descended upon Cullman for Rock the South, braving both the potential heat and rain. Attendees are prepared to enjoy the festival regardless of the weather conditions.
“I’m so glad it’s overcast,” said Sarah Sendelweck from Brandon, Mississippi. “If it was hot and sunny, I don’t think I could handle it.”
Festival-goers have been advised to anticipate both high temperatures and heavy rainfall. “Come to Cullman, have a good time but plan on getting hot,” said Cullman County Emergency Management Agency Director Tim Sartin. “Plan on getting wet because it’s going to be both.”
The primary concerns for the summer storms include lightning and strong winds. The Cullman County EMA is coordinating with Rock the South organizers, the National Weather Service, and several other agencies to monitor conditions and ensure safety.
“We monitor lightning within a 10-mile radius and high winds within 40-50 miles per hour,” Sartin explained. “If there’s lightning nearby, we notify the promoters, who then decide whether to delay the show. Our goal is to keep everyone safe while enjoying the festival.”
