Country music will take center stage at the Huntingdon County Fair’s Midway Stage on Friday, August 9, featuring performances by Make Mine Country and members of the Wheeling Jamboree.
The evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with Make Mine Country, a band comprising Shelby Nestler, Jim Wilson, Jody Shover, Curt Nealman, and Pat Aumiller. Each member hails from diverse musical backgrounds but shares deep roots in classic country music, influenced by the songs of country pioneers. Their performance will resonate with the traditional sounds that shaped their musical journeys.
Following Make Mine Country, the Wheeling Jamboree stars Tim Atwood, Lynn Stewart, and Steve Smith will join Nestler and Wilson at 7 p.m. to continue the evening’s festivities. Nestler and Wilson, inducted into the Wheeling Jamboree in 2013, will host the event. The Wheeling Jamboree, the second oldest country music program after the Grand Ole Opry, has been a staple of country music since 1933.
Over the decades, the Wheeling Jamboree has featured some of the biggest names in country music, including Randy Travis, Tanya Tucker, Reba McEntire, and Willie Nelson. The program continues to be a significant influence in the industry, bringing timeless country music traditions to new audiences.
As one of America’s oldest live radio broadcasts, the Wheeling Jamboree remains a proud American tradition, contributing significantly to the local economy by drawing tourism dollars through its events. The program’s enduring popularity highlights the timeless appeal of country music’s heartfelt themes, from love and ambition to broken dreams and wanderings.
