Will Smith has announced his return to the music scene with a forthcoming album, marking his first in nearly two decades. The actor and singer shared the news during an interview with Instagram’s Black Film Allies.
“In the past year and a half, I’ve been in the studio,” Smith revealed. “I have a project that is the most personal and powerful music project I’ve ever done. The concept behind the music is ‘Dance in your darkest moments.'”
While specifics such as the album’s title and release date were not disclosed, Smith alluded to preparations underway, including an Instagram page and a website titled Dance in Your Darkest Moments. The Instagram bio describes it as “a human wellness initiative designed to inspire self-exploration, encourage acceptance, & cultivate a celebration for life,” hinting at a gospel rap genre.
Recently, the 55-year-old debuted a new song titled You Can Make It at the BET Awards on June 30, which has since climbed to the 14th spot on the Gospel Songs chart. Additionally, Smith teased a collaboration with Russ called Work of Art, slated for release soon.
Earlier this year, Smith contributed to the soundtrack of Bad Boys: Ride or Die with the track Light Em Up featuring Sean Paul. His last full-length album, Lost and Found, dates back to 2005.
