Grammy-winning artist Gramps Morgan is making waves by blending country and reggae in his latest album, “Deeper.” With a nod to the current trend of country-inspired styles, Morgan’s innovative sound is drawing attention.
Morgan sat down with Deco to discuss his new singles and upcoming performance at Miramar Regional Park.
Jamaican singer Gramps Morgan is known for his positive vibes, as evidenced by his latest tracks. His album “Deeper” infuses a country twang with reggae beats, merging two beloved genres in the Caribbean.
“There are several new singles coming which merged two genres that are dear to a lot of Caribbean people, which is reggae and country music,” Morgan shared.
Since releasing “Deeper,” which earned a Grammy nomination, Morgan has been busy performing with various country artists, including Johnny Reid. His unique sound has earned him the title of “genre blender.”
Morgan’s music resonates with listeners, giving them a sense of familiarity. “When people listen to it, they say, ‘This sounds like something I’ve heard before, or it sounds familiar.’ It’s breaking a lot of ground, especially in Nashville,” Morgan noted. He has even collaborated with renowned songwriter Dean Dillon, known for the hit “Tennessee Whiskey.”
Morgan’s goal is to infuse a tropical feel into his music. “When people listen to my music, it kind of takes them away and makes them want to travel to their favorite island, particularly Jamaica.”
As Jamaica celebrates its Independence Day next weekend, Morgan will perform at Miramar Regional Park on August 3. “It’s going to be an amazing event because it’s the 62nd celebration of independence for Jamaica. It won’t be a full concert, but I’ll be part of the celebrations with some favorite songs. It’s going to be a nice little set, a nice little vibe,” he said.
Morgan’s performance promises to be a highlight of the Independence Day festivities, bringing his unique blend of country and reggae to the stage.
