Local dentist Brett Bigelow is set to take the stage alongside rising country singer Clayton Anderson in a special charity concert on January 10. The event, held at The Docks restaurant in Scottsboro, will begin at 7:30 p.m., with all proceeds benefiting the Safe Haven Animal Shelter.
Founded in 2006 by Melissa Utech, Safe Haven rescues abused and abandoned animals, providing them with a second chance through adoption into loving homes. The organization also focuses on reducing animal overpopulation by promoting spaying and neutering.
Bigelow, who has supported Safe Haven for years through his practice, Bigelow Family Dentistry, expressed his desire to contribute further. “Melissa has been doing all the hard work of rescuing animals and getting them adopted,” he said. “But the veterinary care for these animals can get outrageously expensive, and I just wanted to do something to help raise money to continue helping Melissa do what she does.”
With 25 years of musical experience, Bigelow is no stranger to performing. After years of struggling with songwriting, he recently found his stride, inspired by a Christmas gift—a 1962 Epiphone guitar. “I had written songs in the past, but, lyrically, they didn’t have a lot to offer,” Bigelow explained. “But the songs just started coming and coming.”
This burst of creativity led to his self-titled debut album, released in September. Collaborating with Huntsville rock musician and dental patient James Irvin, Bigelow crafted a record featuring a blend of country, southern rock, Americana, and indie/alternative sounds. Fan-favorites include “Front Porch Light” and “Going Home.”
On January 10, Bigelow will perform songs from his album with his bandmates James Irvin, Kenny Berry, and Christian Clark. The concert promises an evening of great music for a worthy cause, supporting Safe Haven’s mission to rescue and rehome animals in need.
