Joe Perry of Aerosmith remains optimistic about the possibility of new music from the band despite their upcoming Peace Out farewell tour. Speaking to Rock Candy magazine, Perry indicated that while he’s currently focused on writing for the Hollywood Vampires, he hasn’t ruled out new Aerosmith material. “There’s definitely a possibility,” Perry remarked, “but at the minute we’re looking at the set for the tour and the songs we can play.”
Aerosmith is set to resume their Peace Out tour in September, which was interrupted last year after only three shows due to Steven Tyler’s vocal cord injury. With a discography spanning 15 studio albums, including their latest release in 2012, Perry acknowledged the wealth of material to choose from for their upcoming shows. “There are a lot of numbers that we haven’t done in a long time that I’d like to play,” he shared. “As far as new music is concerned, I know that Steven’s got some stuff in his back pocket.”
Reflecting on the challenges they’ve faced, including Tyler’s vocal issues and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Perry emphasized the band’s resilience and their eagerness to return to live performances. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s that things change,” Perry mused. Despite acknowledging the passage of time and potential limitations, Perry expressed enthusiasm for hitting the stage again. “At my age, the calendar gets shorter,” he admitted, “but if it’s in your blood there’s nothing else that you want to do.”
While Perry enjoyed the break brought on by the pandemic, he highlighted the uncertainty and challenges it brought, reinforcing his commitment to cherish every moment on stage. “You just don’t know, so that’s why every night that I go on, I play like it’s the last show,” Perry concluded, underscoring his passion for performing and the band’s enduring dedication to their fans.
