Rapper Yung Gravy, also known as Matthew Hauri, made a memorable appearance at the Wisconsin State Fair, following the release of his new album, Serving Country, on August 2. The next day, Gravy headlined the fair’s Main Stage in a performance that felt like a homecoming for the University of Wisconsin-Madison alum.
“It feels great. It feels greaaat,” Gravy told the Journal Sentinel, raising a Spotted Cow, his drink of choice for the evening. “I miss this place. The weather’s great in the summer. I wish we were here longer.” Despite a recent wrist injury, Gravy’s enthusiasm was undampened as he energized the crowd, tossing out goodies and engaging with fans. In a playful twist, some attendees responded by tossing bras onto the stage.
In a backstage interview, Gravy discussed his new album, which features collaborations with some of country music’s biggest stars. He also reflected on his time in Madison and shared insights into his evolving musical style. As Gravy and his crew prepared to head to Sioux City, Iowa, for another show, the night in Wisconsin remained a standout moment in his tour.
