Raul Malo, lead singer of The Mavericks, delivered a hopeful update to fans over the weekend following his recent cancer diagnosis. On August 3, 2024, Malo shared encouraging news on The Mavericks’ Instagram, stating that his health is improving and his recent treatment has been successful.
“Round #2 is history now. Doctors are pleased with my progress. All the bloodwork and health signs are pointing in the right direction,” the 58-year-old Malo wrote. He mentioned experiencing only mild fatigue as a side effect, which he is managing despite his active lifestyle.
Malo expressed gratitude to his fans for their support, saying their encouragement has been a significant source of strength. “The love and compassion shown to me in the last month has been beautifully overwhelming. I thank you and my family thanks you,” he noted.
In addition to his personal update, Malo urged others to prioritize their health, advising them to consult with their doctors without delay.
Malo initially disclosed his diagnosis in a video posted on June 27, revealing he had discovered two cancerous spots during a routine physical. He began treatment shortly after the Fourth of July.
The treatment may affect The Mavericks’ tour schedule, with the band’s next performance scheduled for August 9 at the Pinewood Bowl Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska.
