R&B icon Monica is set to make a significant return with not one, but two albums before the end of 2024. Her highly anticipated projects include a country album titled Open Roads, which will mark her first foray into the genre.
Open Roads is executive produced by Americana singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, known for her work with artists such as Joni Mitchell, Tanya Tucker, and Brandy Clark. Monica expressed her excitement about the collaboration, recounting Carlile’s encouragement to pursue new musical directions. “Brandi Carlile told me, ‘Monica, stop waiting and I will help you,’” Monica shared with Entertainment Tonight in 2022.
The album, which Monica first hinted at in 2022 and completed in 2023, follows her R&B album MDA, previously known as Trenches. Monica acknowledged that the project experienced delays due to personal challenges but confirmed both albums are now ready for release.
Fans can look forward to Monica’s unique blend of country and R&B, showcasing her versatility and evolution as an artist.
