Billy Ray Cyrus and his ex-wife Firerose have finalized their divorce, ending their marriage of less than a year. Cyrus filed for divorce in May, citing “irreconcilable differences,” and the marriage was officially dissolved on Monday.
According to official documents obtained by The New York Post, Firerose, 37, exited the marriage without financial settlement. A source told Daily Mail that she chose to “settle for nothing just to be done with Cyrus and get away from the situation.” However, Cyrus has agreed to transfer his claims to credits and royalties for songs they co-wrote and published.
Following the finalization of the divorce, Cyrus released a statement through his lawyers. “This has been absolutely the most crazy insane scam I have ever heard of,” he said. “It’s unfortunate it played out this way. Not only was it a web of lies that put me in physical danger, but it was also a matter of the heart. Love is blind, that’s for sure.”
Earlier this year, Cyrus sought an annulment, alleging that Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Hodges, misled him about her true identity. He claimed she changed her surname to Cyrus to advance her music career. Firerose, on the other hand, stated that Cyrus left her after she disclosed her need for a preventative double mastectomy.
Despite the divorce being finalized, tensions remain. An insider told TMZ that if the case had gone to trial, Firerose’s team would have presented substantial evidence to counter Cyrus’s claims. The source added that while Firerose would have likely won the divorce, her priority was to end the smear campaign and focus on recovering from her surgery peacefully.
