Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., known professionally as Nelly, was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, August 7th, at a Missouri casino on charges of drug possession and an outstanding insurance violation warrant.

The 49-year-old rapper, famous for hits like “Hot in Herre”, was apprehended at the Hollywood Casino in St Charles, Missouri, following a routine identification check that flagged an outstanding warrant related to a previous traffic stop for lack of insurance. According to reports from the New York Post, a subsequent search uncovered four ecstasy pills in his possession.

A spokesperson from the Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed the arrest at 4:45am, after which Nelly was booked at the Maryland Heights Police Department and subsequently released. Formal charges are pending, awaiting submission of paperwork by the arresting police department.

Nelly, currently anticipating the birth of a child with his wife Ashanti later this year, has not publicly commented on the incident. The couple, who had an on-and-off relationship spanning a decade from 2003 to 2013, recently rekindled their romance and secretly married in December last year.

Ashanti, 43, expressed positivity about their relationship’s growth in a June interview with Entertainment Tonight, highlighting improved communication and understanding between them.
