Cirque du Soleil is blazing a new trail through the rich history of country music with its latest production, Songblazers. This new show pays tribute to the genre’s iconic figures and evolution from its origins in 1867 to its modern-day global impact. Writer and director Amy Tinkham has crafted a performance that honors country music’s legacy while exploring its enduring appeal. “Telling the truth and telling the story is the beautiful part of country music,” Tinkham stated in a press release. “That’s what Songblazers is about.”

The production has generated significant excitement, particularly for 19-year-old rising star Allora Leonard from South Austin. Leonard received the news of her involvement in the show while in the car with her father. “I’m pretty sure he and I both screamed!” Leonard told the Chronicle. “It had been my dream as a little girl to perform at this magnitude, and I was in utter shock that I reached that milestone.”

Leonard, known for her renditions of classics by Etta James and George Strait, has been passionate about music since she was 14. Her visit to the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville solidified her musical ambitions: “It was right then that I knew music was my calling.”

In Songblazers, Leonard takes on the role of Ranch Girl/Willow, a character that resonates deeply with her. “I’m literally a ranch girl and have spent most of my life in the saddle,” she said. Leonard finds joy in performing stunts, dancing, and acrobatics, all while singing beloved country songs. “I love seeing some of the audience sing it back to me,” she added.

Despite the challenges of being away from loved ones, Leonard is excited for the Austin show, opening on August 14, which will bring her closer to family and friends. “Although this show is most certainly a celebration of country music, it’s also a story of friendship and how it grows and changes over time,” Leonard said. “It is truly beautiful to witness, and I know it’s something the audience will be able to relate to.”

Leonard concluded with a light-hearted note: “Look out for the chicken!”
