Country music star Phil Vassar has disclosed a harrowing health ordeal, revealing that he “died” twice after his heart stopped for a total of 30 minutes before being revived by medical professionals.
The 62-year-old Vassar shared his shocking experience during an interview with Taste of Country. He described suffering a heart attack and a stroke early last year, with both incidents resulting in his heart stopping momentarily. “I dropped dead. I was dead for 30 minutes a couple of times. No heartbeat. No heartbeat at all,” Vassar stated.
The heart attack struck while he was at home, with Vassar noting that he had felt unusually tired in the days leading up to the event. Just three days later, he experienced a stroke, leading to another period of cardiac arrest. He recalled that while he was aware of the doctors’ attempts to revive him, including the use of CPR and multiple shocks to his heart, he had no memory of these critical moments. “They had to shock me 11 times and cracked some ribs. Broke my ribs. But I don’t remember any of that,” he said.
Despite the severe nature of his health crisis, Vassar praised the advancements in medical care that contributed to his recovery, expressing gratitude for the “amazing evolution of medicine” that helped him get back on track.
