The Oak Ridge Boys, esteemed icons of country and gospel music, are set to perform in Orkney Springs, Shenandoah County, this week. The show will be part of the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival at Shrine Mont, with the band taking the stage at 8 p.m. on August 17 as a highlight of their American Made Farewell Tour.
The Oak Ridge Boys, established in 1943, have been celebrated for their distinctive four-part harmonies and lively performances. Key members Duane Allen, Richard Sterban, and the late Joe Bonsall have shaped the group’s sound for over five decades.
Sterban, the group’s bass vocalist, provided insight into the farewell tour. “Last fall, we announced our 50-year celebration and the start of our farewell tour,” Sterban said. “We’re taking this tour as an opportunity to thank our fans and everyone who supported us throughout our career. While we initially thought the tour would end this year, we’re now booking dates into next year, so it’s uncertain when it will officially conclude.”
Sterban emphasized that the tour holds special significance, especially following the recent passing of Bonsall. “We’re going through a tough time with Joe’s loss, but we’re grateful to have Ben James, a talented 28-year-old, stepping in. He’s not trying to replace Joe but has integrated well with the band,” Sterban added.
