The Twin Cities are set to host a series of major music events from Thursday, August 15 to Monday, August 19, featuring a range of big names across various venues.

On Friday night, Metallica will perform at U.S. Bank Stadium, while Saturday sees Green Day and the Smashing Pumpkins at Target Field and Hozier at the Xcel Energy Center. The weekend continues with Metallica returning to U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, and Def Leppard, Journey, and the Steve Miller Band taking the stage at Target Field on Monday.

This busy lineup underscores the Twin Cities’ growing reputation as a premier music destination. According to Jim Novak from Electric Fetus, the city has always attracted major acts, but its appeal has increased since the pandemic.

“The key factor is our strong ticket sales,” Novak said. “Consistent attendance is crucial for bands and promoters.”

Novak also highlighted the city’s diverse array of music venues, from intimate spaces to large arenas. “We have everything from First Avenue to Target Center, Xcel Energy Center, and Target Field,” he said. “Our venues offer excellent acoustics, making them attractive for performances.”

Excitement is also building for the Minnesota Yacht Club music festival, which will return in 2025 with an expanded three-day format. “This festival fills a gap,” Novak added. “While we’ve had shows at various venues, a large outdoor festival is a significant addition.”

Matt Hodson of the Minnesota Twins and Target Field noted the Twin Cities’ diverse music scene. “Our lineup this year showcases that diversity,” Hodson said. “From Green Day and the Smashing Pumpkins to Def Leppard and Journey, and earlier this year, Foo Fighters—our venues have hosted a wide range of artists, including Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Billy Joel, and Pink, who set an all-time attendance record.”
