Spanish authorities are investigating the production of Katy Perry’s music video for her song “Lifetimes” following allegations of unauthorized filming in a protected area.
The inquiry focuses on the production company’s activities during the video shoot in Spain’s Balearic Islands. Specifically, the investigation centers on footage filmed in and around the dunes on the islet of s’Espalmado, which is part of the Parc Natural de Ses Salines national park—a designated preservation area.
According to a media release from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Natural Environment, the production company did not obtain the necessary permissions for the shoot. The statement, issued in Spanish, noted, “In no case had the production company requested authorisation from the Regional Ministry to carry out the filming.”
The location in question is a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for its significant Mediterranean biodiversity and home to approximately 210 bird species, as highlighted by the Formentera Island Council’s website.
As of now, Katy Perry, 39, has not publicly addressed the ongoing investigation.
