Nashville’s iconic honky-tonk, the Nashville Palace, played host to a remarkable evening celebrating the legacy of Wanted! The Outlaws, the first country music album to go Platinum. The event, sponsored by George Dickel Whisky, not only honored the groundbreaking 1976 record but also marked the 10th anniversary of Rolling Stone Country.
The celebration kicked off with Rolling Stone publisher Brian Szejka and Senior Editor Joseph Hudak raising a toast to a decade of Rolling Stone Country, setting the tone for an unforgettable night of outlaw country music.
The band Silverada, formerly known as Mike and the Moonpies, provided backing for each of the night’s performers. The group also showcased their own flair with Texas-inspired renditions of Waylon Jennings’ “Honky Tonk Heroes” and Merle Haggard’s “Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink.”
Taylor Hunnicutt, an Alabama native known for her gritty voice, delivered powerful performances of Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings’ “Good Hearted Woman” and Johnny Paycheck’s “Can’t Quit Drinking.”
Grammy-nominated artist Brent Cobb brought his Southern charm to renditions of Willie Nelson’s “Me and Paul” and “Yesterday’s Wine.” Cobb later welcomed Maggie Rose to the stage, where the two delivered a show-stopping duet of “Suspicious Minds,” the iconic song from Wanted! The Outlaws originally performed by Jennings and Jessi Colter.
Maggie Rose continued to captivate the audience with a solo performance of Jennings’ “Ain’t Living Long Like This,” her powerful voice silencing the packed room.
As the evening drew to a close, the performers united for a spirited singalong of Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again,” with the crowd joining in, drinks held high in celebration. The night’s signature cocktails, including “Suspicious Minds” and the “Outlaw Old Fashioned,” blended the traditional with the unexpected, much like the outlaw country music they honored.
The event was a fitting tribute to the enduring influence of Outlaw Country and the trailblazing spirit of George Dickel Whisky, a night where history and tradition met with innovation and boldness.
