Jack White is once again defying norms with his latest solo album, No Name. The album was initially released on July 19 in a highly unconventional manner—distributed as a free, unlabeled vinyl to unsuspecting customers at Third Man Records stores in Detroit, Nashville, and London. The album was subsequently released commercially on August 1 as a blue vinyl LP, available exclusively through independent record stores, and became available for digital download on August 2.
White’s promotional strategy for No Name continues his tradition of unpredictability. On August 13, he unveiled plans for a surprise tour via Instagram. This tour will feature performances at small clubs, backyard BBQs, and select festivals, but dates will be announced with little advance notice, adding an element of spontaneity to the tour.
The tour has already begun, with White and his band having played a 1,000-capacity show at Detroit’s Saint Andrew’s Hall on August 5, which served as an informal album release event. A subsequent pop-up performance occurred on August 13 at The Basement East in Nashville, a venue with a 575-person capacity, where White delivered a high-energy show that left fans eager for more.
White’s approach remains true to his history of breaking conventions, from the distinctive red, white, and black color scheme of his former band, The White Stripes, to their famously brief concert in Newfoundland, Canada, in 2007, which featured a single note and a cymbal crash.
As of now, the only confirmed date on White’s tour itinerary is an appearance at the Desert Daze festival in Rancho Las Perris, California, in October.
