Kehlani has been granted a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, Javaughn Young-White, amidst their ongoing custody battle. The order was issued by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge following Young-White’s recent legal action seeking both legal and physical custody of their five-year-old daughter, Adeya. Young-White’s filing also included claims that Kehlani was involved in a cult.
In response, Kehlani, who identifies with she/they pronouns, sought protection from Young-White last week. The restraining order prohibits him from contacting Kehlani or approaching within 100 yards of her or their daughter. Additionally, the court has awarded Kehlani sole custody of Adeya until a hearing scheduled for September 3, when the order is set to expire.
Kehlani’s court filing accuses Young-White of exhibiting abusive behavior that is “scary” and “very upsetting” for a child. They described Young-White as emotionally unstable, suffering from periods of despair, and prone to uncontrollable anger.
Young-White has denied these allegations on Instagram, asserting that the claims of abuse are false and labeling the situation as an overreaction.
In response to media coverage, Kehlani clarified on Instagram that she did not initiate the publicity surrounding the restraining order and emphasized that she has never been involved in a cult or endangered her child. Young-White has also expressed regret over some of the statements made in his custody filings.
In addition to seeking custody, Young-White is requesting child support and aims to have his name added to Adeya’s birth certificate.
