Beloved local country music artist Matt Snook has passed away at the age of 51 after a valiant battle with kidney cancer. Snook, who had been fighting the disease for nearly a year, died peacefully at his home in Camden Point, Missouri, surrounded by his family on August 15, 2024.

Born on June 29, 1973, in St. Joseph, Missouri, Snook was a standout athlete at North Platte R-1 High School, excelling in basketball, baseball, and football. He continued his athletic career at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, where he played basketball and earned his degree in 1995. That same year, he married his high school sweetheart, Stephanie, with whom he shared two sons, Austin and Westin.

Snook’s life was marked by a deep commitment to his community, especially the youth of North Platte. He spent countless hours coaching little league basketball, baseball, and football, leaving a lasting impact on many young lives.

Professionally, Snook worked as a Project Manager for Sprint for 12 years, achieving his certification as a Project Management Professional in 2001. However, his passion for music led him to leave his corporate career and move to Nashville, where he pursued a career in country music. During his time in Nashville, Snook forged lasting connections, wrote numerous songs, and made friends who became like family.

Upon returning to Kansas City, Snook and his band became a fixture in the local music scene, performing at festivals, fairs, and events across the United States. He was particularly proud of his performances of the National Anthem at various military events, professional sporting events, and occasions such as the US Open and for the Kansas City Royals.

Snook’s legacy extends beyond his music. His servant heart led him to volunteer for numerous organizations, including the Troops First Foundation, Musicians on Call, America’s Huey 091 Foundation, Camp Quality, and Snowball Express. He traveled extensively, performing for troops overseas, supporting Gold Star Families, and bringing comfort to terminally ill children through his music.

Matt Snook’s impact on his community and the lives he touched through his music and volunteer work will never be forgotten. His legacy is one of kindness, dedication, and a profound love for those around him.
