Country music sensation Morgan Wallen is currently navigating a significant legal challenge, despite the soaring success of his ongoing tour. The singer, known for his sold-out shows and celebrity-studded performances, is facing the possibility of up to six years in prison due to a serious legal incident earlier this year.
Wallen was scheduled to appear in a Nashville court on August 15 to address charges stemming from an incident at a rooftop bar in the city. According to police reports, Wallen allegedly threw a chair from the sixth floor of the bar, nearly striking nearby officers. Witnesses reported seeing the singer laughing after the chair was thrown.
The charges against Wallen include disorderly conduct, danger to the public, and three counts of reckless endangerment. Due to the proximity of the chair to the officers and Wallen’s high-profile status, his case has garnered significant attention. Each felony charge could potentially result in one to two years of imprisonment, meaning Wallen faces a maximum of six years if convicted on all counts.
However, criminal defense attorney David Raybin told PEOPLE that it is unlikely Wallen would serve the sentences consecutively. Raybin explained that the severity of the sentence would depend on factors such as Wallen’s prior record and the dangerousness of the offense.
“It’s probably a maximum of two years assuming he was not put on probation,” Raybin said, noting that the threat posed to the officers involved does not work in Wallen’s favor.
