Willie Nelson, the iconic country music legend, is teaming up with his youngest son, Micah Nelson, for a unique musical project. Micah, a musician known for his eclectic style and band “Particle Kid,” will join forces with his father on the upcoming album, Last Leaf on the Tree, set for release on November 1st.
Micah, who has been performing alongside Willie and his older brother Lukas, has taken on the role of producer for this album. He plays most of the instruments and has had a significant influence on the song selection. The album, a more personal side project for Willie, explores themes of “facing death with grace,” a sentiment that resonates deeply with the 91-year-old artist.
The project features contributions from renowned artists such as Tom Waits, who provides the title track, Neil Young, with songs including “Are You Ready For The Country?,” and Beck, who is featured on “Lost Cause.” Micah Nelson’s original track “Wheels” and his collaboration with Willie on “The Color of Sound” are also highlights.
Micah, known for his experimental approach to music, describes his production method as a “sculptor’s approach,” involving a dynamic process of adding and refining. He plays over two dozen instruments on the album, including guitars, pianos, and unconventional items like sticks and dead leaves.
Last Leaf on the Tree is available for pre-order now, offering fans a glimpse into this innovative father-son collaboration.
