Taylor Swift has shared her thoughts on the recent terrorist threat that led to the cancellation of three shows on the European leg of her The Eras Tour. The threat, which was thwarted by authorities, prompted the shows in Vienna to be canceled in early August.
In a detailed Instagram post, Swift expressed her feelings about the situation: “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because, thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”
Swift also acknowledged the support from her fans during the ordeal, saying, “I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who banded together.”
The threat led to the arrest of three individuals: a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old, who were accused of planning the attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, and an 18-year-old Iraqi national who was later arrested in connection with the case.
Addressing the criticism she faced for her silence on the matter, Swift explained, “Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows. In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to do so.”
She added that her primary focus was ensuring the safety of her European tour, stating, “It is with great relief that I can say we did that.”
Swift is currently on a break from touring to rest before resuming The Eras Tour in October, with performances scheduled to restart in Miami.
