Daniel Platzman has announced his departure from Imagine Dragons after over a decade with the band. The drummer revealed his decision on Instagram, citing his intention to focus on composing film scores.
“After an incredible journey of over a decade, I will be departing the amazing band that is Imagine Dragons,” Platzman wrote. “I wanted to share my deepest gratitude to you, the fans, for your unwavering support and sharing in the joy of music with me. Connecting with you all has truly been the highlight of this chapter.”
Platzman, who joined the pop-rock band fronted by Dan Reynolds shortly before their 2011 signing with Interscope Records, has decided to pursue his passion for film scoring and composing. He had previously taken an indefinite hiatus from the band last year, which he has now formalized with his recent announcement.
Bassist Ben McKee expressed his support, stating, “Love you Platz! Looking forward to making more Cat Boiz music in the future.” Andrew Tolman, the band’s original drummer, also shared his sentiments with a series of heart emojis.
Imagine Dragons, known for hits like “Radioactive” and “Believer,” are currently on the U.S. leg of their Loom World Tour, promoting their latest album, Loom, which is their first release without Platzman. The band has yet to address his departure on their official social media platforms.
