Miranda Lambert’s upcoming album Postcards From Texas pays a unique tribute to the Lone Star State with its lead track, “Armadillo.” During a recent live teaser at Stubb’s Austin pop-up show, Lambert previewed the song, which features an eccentric tale of a hitchhiking armadillo with a surprising twist.
In the song, Lambert narrates an encounter with an armadillo in Amarillo who requests a light and reveals an unexpected lifestyle. “I met an armadillo / Out in Amarillo / And he asked me for a light,” Lambert sings. The narrative continues with the armadillo joining her in the car, rolling a joint, and enjoying a drink, leading to a series of humorous events.
Postcards From Texas, set to release on September 13, highlights Lambert’s affection for her home state. Alongside “Armadillo,” the album includes tracks such as “Wranglers,” “Alimony,” “Dammit Randy,” and “No Man’s Land.” This album marks Lambert’s first release since leaving Sony Nashville, with her new deal now under Republic Records.
Lambert expressed that “Armadillo” was the clear choice for the album’s opening track from the moment she heard it.
