Swedish progressive rock band Beardfish, known for their influential sound, is set to release their first new studio album since their 2016 breakup. The album, titled Songs For Beating Hearts, will debut on November 1, 2024.
In conjunction with the album announcement, the band has unveiled a new single, “In The Autumn,” featuring a duet between Beardfish’s Rikard Sjoblom and guest vocalist Amanda Ortenhag. The song has already been a highlight at their recent live performances.
Rikard Sjoblom shared insights into the band’s reunion, noting that the idea began taking shape in 2021. “We started discussing the possibility of coming back together,” Sjoblom said. “People had made amends, and there was a sense of nostalgia and a longing to reunite. We maintained contact and eventually decided to meet up and play some music. I had written a few new songs and had some instrumental ideas. When we first played together, it felt like home, even after the years apart. It was as if we were reconnecting with old friends.”
Songs For Beating Hearts blends nostalgic elements with a fresh sense of wonder. The album showcases the band’s signature sound while exploring new emotional depths. Highlights include the ethereal “Ecotone,” the complex “Out In The Open,” the epic “Beating Hearts,” and the somber “Torrential Downpour.” The album is thematically unified by themes of love, loss, and friendship, marking it as both their most emotionally resonant and strongest work to date.
