The Atlanta Hip Hop Day Festival celebrated its 15th anniversary over the Labor Day weekend, drawing attendees to Historic Fourth Ward Park for a vibrant showcase of music and culture. Held on Saturday and Sunday across from Ponce City Market, the festival has become a staple in Atlanta’s cultural calendar, spotlighting local talent and supporting Black-owned businesses.

Duluth resident Tamara Hunter attended the festival for the first time, seeking a family-friendly event during the holiday weekend. Hunter, originally from Jamaica, was eager to explore Atlanta’s Black culture and was impressed by the festival’s friendly atmosphere and engaging music.

The event has featured notable performances over the years, including those by Spark Dawg, a protégé of Memphis and Atlanta-based hip-hop producer Drumma Boy. Known for his horror film-inspired beats and custom gold grills, Spark Dawg has become a familiar face at the festival, noting that repeat visitors now recognize him from his past performances.

The festival also showcased dynamic female emcees, including Nesha Nyce, who captivated the audience with her vibrant rainbow braids, metallic jumpsuit, and dark lipstick while performing “We Ain’t On the Same Type of Time.” The festival’s official host, Niko, praised Nyce’s impressive stage presence, declaring her a standout talent.
