Last week, Morrissey updated his official website with news about a potential Smiths reunion tour. According to the announcement, a significant offer was made by AEG Entertainment Group to both Morrissey and former bandmate Johnny Marr for a world tour under The Smiths’ name in 2025. Morrissey has accepted the offer, but Marr has yet to respond.
Under the banner “war is old, art is young,” Morrissey’s website detailed the proposal made in June 2024, stating, “AEG Entertainment Group extended a lucrative offer to Morrissey and Marr for a global tour as ‘The Smiths’ throughout 2025. Morrissey has agreed to the offer, while Marr has not yet responded.”
Morrissey is scheduled to embark on a largely sold-out U.S. tour this November, whereas Marr continues to perform as a special guest with New Order.
Should the reunion materialize, it would mark the first time Morrissey and Marr have performed together as The Smiths since the band’s dissolution in 1987.
