Britney Spears has put to rest rumors about a biopic in development, revealing that her much-anticipated secret project is actually a fictional musical. Reports had circulated since early August suggesting that Spears was collaborating with producer Marc Platt and director Jon Chu on a biographical film based on her recent memoir, The Woman in Me.

Spears initially hinted at the project on social media, expressing enthusiasm about her work with Platt, stating, “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favourite movies … stay tuned.”

However, Spears has now clarified that the project is not a biopic but a musical. According to reports by NME, the pop star will be playing “an extremely intelligent character,” although specific details about the film’s plot remain undisclosed. Jon Chu’s involvement in the project has also been confirmed.

The Woman in Me was a major success upon its release, selling over 2.5 million copies in the U.S. alone. The audiobook, narrated by actress Michelle Williams and featuring an introduction by Spears, became the fastest-selling audiobook in Simon & Schuster’s history. The memoir includes several personal revelations, including details about an abortion she had while dating Justin Timberlake.
