Gracie Abrams believes that the summer of 2024 has sparked a “pop renaissance” that is revitalizing social media, making it fun once again. In a cover story interview with Who What Wear, the 24-year-old rising pop star shared her thoughts on the current dominance of female artists in pop music and how it has transformed the experience of scrolling through social media.
“This summer, there’s been something that feels oddly reminiscent of the early days of Instagram, when the internet felt more enjoyable,” Abrams said. She credited Charli XCX and other leading women in pop, including Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sabrina Carpenter, for making social media a more engaging space.
Abrams noted the positive shift, stating, “Everyone’s actually enjoying scrolling and seeing s—.” She also highlighted the strong sense of camaraderie among women in the industry.
“There’s a lot of support among women in pop music right now,” Abrams commented. “You just are thrilled for everyone.” She acknowledged the impact of seeing long-time icons supporting each other, which helps to make intimidating environments feel more welcoming.
For Abrams, this genuine support among peers does not feel contrived. “When there’s real, true support, you feel the difference,” she said, reflecting on the authentic connections within the industry.
