Robert Guillerman, the legendary Houston rap pioneer and founder of Southwest Wholesale, has died at the age of 73. Guillerman, widely credited with elevating Houston’s music scene, passed away at Houston Methodist Hospital on Thursday following a prolonged battle with heart issues. He had been hospitalized for two weeks prior to his death.
Guillerman’s daughter, Rachel, confirmed the news, and tributes have poured in honoring his significant impact on the Texas music industry. One mourner reflected, “He was the music industry in Texas for many years, an invaluable resource to so many, and a great human being who always stood on the side of right. You will be missed, but you can rest now.”
