Lisa, a member of the renowned K-pop group BLACKPINK, made a notable appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) this year, attending as a solo artist for the first time. Her performance was a highlight of the evening, and she took home the “Best K-POP Award,” becoming the first artist in K-pop history to win this accolade in consecutive years.

Upon receiving the award, Lisa expressed her gratitude from the stage, thanking both “BLINKS” and “lilies” — the fanbases of BLACKPINK and her solo career, respectively. Her heartfelt acceptance was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.

This accolade comes after Lisa’s decision to not renew her personal contract with YG Entertainment. Following this, she launched her own agency, “LLOUD,” and has garnered significant attention for her work. At this year’s VMAs, Lisa was nominated in four categories: Best K-POP, Best Choreography, Best Art Direction, and Best Editing for her track “Rockstar.”

The competition for the Best K-POP Award was notably intense. Lisa edged out other nominees including BTS’s “Seven,” NCT Dream’s “Smoothie,” Stray Kids’ “Rock,” Tomorrow by Together’s “Dejavu,” and NewJeans’ “Super Shy.”

Two years prior, Lisa made history by winning the same award as a member of BLACKPINK with their performance of “Pink Venom.” This year, her solo success further cemented her status in the industry. Reflecting on her win, Lisa remarked, “‘Rockstar’ is a very meaningful work for me after ‘LALISA,’ so winning this award is extremely special to me.”
