In an exciting collaboration, singer-songwriter Hayes Carll and Austin’s beloved Band of Heathens have officially joined forces to create a new supergroup called Hayes & The Heathens. Their debut self-titled album is set to be released on October 4th, with the lead single, “Any Other Way,” already available for streaming. The group has also announced a series of tour dates spanning from September through December.
Ed Jurdi of Band of Heathens expressed the natural synergy between the two acts, saying, “We’ve been great compadres for such a long time, and it was just the right time for this project to come to life. I think you can really hear all of that in the music.” The album, recorded at the Heathens’ Austin-based studio The Finishing School, promises a mix of country-funk and upbeat boogie, with Carll and the Heathens co-writing seven of the album’s eight tracks.
The band also offers a cover of the Proclaimers’ 1993 hit “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles),” adding their unique twist to the classic. Additionally, Carll’s previously released track, “Nobody Dies From Weed,” penned with Driver Williams, features on the album.
Hayes Carll noted that their creative partnership has been evolving for over a decade, and this new supergroup is a natural extension of their long-standing collaboration. “We’ve played a lot of music together over the last 10 years, and Hayes & The Heathens is that thing,” said Carll.
The group will kick off their tour on September 14th in Denver, CO, with stops across the U.S., including a special performance in Luckenbach, TX, where the idea for the supergroup first solidified during a jam session in 2023.
