At the VMA Awards on September 11, Shaboozey, the artist behind the hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” voiced his disappointment over Beyoncé’s lack of nominations for the 2024 CMA Awards. Despite Beyoncé’s country-inspired album Cowboy Carter and its notable achievements, including topping Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, she received no recognition from the Country Music Association (CMA) this year.
Shaboozey, who is nominated for two CMA Awards—Single of the Year for “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and New Artist of the Year—shared his thoughts with E! News. The track has been a standout on the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks. Reflecting on Beyoncé’s omission, Shaboozey remarked, “It’s definitely unfortunate, if that’s something she was looking to receive and worked for. I know as an artist, you put a lot of time and energy into your music. But awards aren’t everything; making a genuine impact on people is what really matters.”
Before his breakout hit, Shaboozey contributed to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter with tracks like “Spaghettii” and “Sweet Honey Buckiin’.” Additionally, Beyoncé’s single “Texas Hold ‘Em” made history as the first Black woman to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs. Despite these accomplishments, the CMA’s nominations did not reflect her contributions.
The 58th annual CMA Awards will be held at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on November 20 and will air on ABC, with the following day available on Hulu. This year’s leading nominees include Morgan Wallen with seven nominations, while Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton each received five nominations.
