Lil Wayne has publicly shared his disappointment after missing out on the opportunity to headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in his hometown of New Orleans. The rap icon took to Instagram on Friday to reveal his emotional response following the announcement that Kendrick Lamar will headline the event.

In a poignant video post, Wayne described the news as a “blow” that left him feeling “broken.” He expressed the challenge of mustering the strength to discuss his feelings “without breaking down.”

Wayne, who has long voiced his ambition to perform at the NFL’s championship game, revealed his dismay over being overlooked for the coveted spot at the Caesars Superdome on February 9, 2025. Lamar, a Los Angeles-based rapper, will be making his second Super Bowl halftime appearance after performing with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, and Eminem in 2022.

In his video, Wayne, a five-time Grammy winner known for hits like “Lollipop,” “Mr. Carter,” “Go DJ,” and “A Milli,” reflected on his expectations and self-blame for not being mentally prepared for the setback. He acknowledged the support he has received from fans and fellow artists, including Nicki Minaj and Birdman, who have rallied behind him during this time.

Wayne concluded his message with gratitude for his supporters, noting, “Your words turned into arms and held me up when I tried to fall back.”
