Montezuma County’s Odis Sikes has been celebrated with an induction into the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame. The esteemed ceremony took place on Sunday, August 25, at Dougie G’s Lounge in Thornton.
Sikes, who was previously unaware of the Hall of Fame’s existence, expressed his surprise and delight at the recognition. “I didn’t know what to expect,” he admitted. “I didn’t know there was a Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame.”
The event, which featured ten new inductees and various awards, was likened by Sikes to the Country Music Awards, with categories including Female Vocalist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Musician of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year.
Sikes recounted how he was unexpectedly nominated for this honor. While performing last winter, a woman from the Front Range praised his singing and mentioned her intent to nominate him. “I forgot all about it,” Sikes said. “Then she texted me one day and said, ‘You’re gonna be inducted.’”
The nomination came from Susie Knight, a fellow singer who was inducted herself in 2023. Knight praised Sikes’s vocal qualities, noting, “His voice stood out to me. I like his tone, his vocals, his timing. I come from a family of professional singers, and all the technical parts of singing, he has that mastered.”
