JD Souther, Iconic Songwriter and Actor, Passes Away at 78

JD Souther, the acclaimed singer-songwriter and actor renowned for co-writing Eagles classics such as “New Kid in Town” and “Best of My Love,” has died at the age of 78. Souther, whose solo career boasted the top 10 hit “You’re Only Lonely,” passed away peacefully at his home in New Mexico. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

In addition to his work with the Eagles, Souther contributed to several of their hits including “Heartache Tonight,” “Victim of Love,” and “The Sad Cafe.” He also penned “How Long,” a song covered by the Eagles in 2007, and collaborated with Don Henley on tracks like “The Heart of the Matter.”

Souther had been actively preparing for joint concerts with fellow 1970s singer-songwriter Karla Bonoff and had performed just five days before his passing. He was also known for his acting roles on the TV series Nashville and Thirtysomething.
